Description
The lychgate and attached walls at South Cave Cemetery were built between 1873 and 1874. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring brick and ashlar dressings. The lychgate has wooden piers and a roof covered with plain tiles. It consists of two low walls, each supporting two wooden piers with arch braces that hold up the roof. There are two wooden gates with quatrefoil panels in the center. On either side of the lychgate, there are curved rubble stone walls topped with curved brick, which end in single square brick piers that have ashlar pyramidal caps. This structure is included for its group value.
