Description

The stable block at Cave Castle is an early 19th-century building constructed from yellow brick with graduated slate roofs. The central section is two stories high and has three bays, featuring a prominent three-story tower at the center, flanked by lower wings that each have four bays. Designed in the Gothick style, the central entrance consists of a double-leaf glazed and panelled door with a fanlight, all set beneath a pointed arch within a larger pointed opening. Above the door, there is a coat of arms situated beneath paired lancet windows that share a hoodmould. A tall, square-headed boarded opening with a hoodmould is located above this. The building is adorned with a dentilled cornice and a crenellated parapet. Atop the structure is an octagonal timber cupola featuring a modillion cornice and a copper dome with a ball finial.

On either side of the central door, there are two-light pointed windows with Gothick glazing bars in the Perpendicular style, also under hoodmoulds. The first floor has paired eight-pane sash windows set under cambered gauged brick arches, accompanied by a single hoodmould on each side. The wings of the stable block have tall blank pointed openings, which are accentuated by buttresses with offsets. The building has scattered 19th-century windows and features a dentilled pediment and a hipped roof. The rear elevations are characterized by round arches.
