Description

The Former High Hall Entrance Lodge at Bishop Burton College is a gate lodge built in 1888, designed by W H Fletcher of London. It is constructed of red brick, featuring half-timbering and tile hanging, with plain tile roofs and two tall external brick chimney stacks. The building has a chamfered brick plinth and is arranged in an L-plan over two storeys.

The south-facing street front includes a cross wing on the left, which has a blank ground floor and a canted corner bay window supported by an arch-braced structure. The upper floor is half-timbered and has a single 4-light casement window. To the right, there is a projecting wooden porch on a brick plinth, supported by turned wooden columns and topped with a gabled roof that has a timber gable. Behind this porch is a brick entrance. Adjacent to the porch is a single 2-light casement window with a chamfered ashlar lintel, while the upper floor is tile hung and features a small gabled dormer window with a 2-light casement.

On the east front, there is a prominent gable stack with a single 2-light casement window on the ground floor and a single light casement window above. The west front has an off-centre stack with an upper floor oriel dormer window, and to the left, there is a jettied projecting gabled upper floor with a 3-light casement window.
