Description
Thompsons Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the mid to late 18th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of red brick and features a concrete pantile roof. The south front has a two-room layout with a central entrance hall, a rear wing at the center, and outshuts at the angles. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has three symmetrical bays.
The central entrance has a 20th-century part-glazed panelled door with a three-pane overlight, all set within a wooden architrave beneath a rubbed-brick flat arch that has a raised ashlar keystone. This entrance is flanked by 19th-century four-pane sash windows in enlarged openings, which are topped by stucco flat arches. On the first floor, there are four-pane sashes in their original openings, featuring rubbed-brick keyed flat arches and sills. The eaves cornice is cogged brick, and the raised gables have tumbled-in brick. The end stacks have been partly rebuilt.
Inside, there is an open well, closed string staircase with a corniced handrail, column newels, and column-on-vase balusters with square knops. The doors are six-fielded-panel types set in architraves. The ranges adjoining to the rear right are not considered of special interest.
