Description

42 and 44 High Street are a two-storey building incorporating both medieval stonework and later 17th or 18th century brick, now painted. The upper windows date from the 18th century, and the roof is covered with pantiles and features two dormers. Number 42 has a modern window on the ground floor and a modern door. Number 44 has a late 18th century shop front consisting of two bow windows; glazing bars are missing from one of the bow windows, and these are separated by a small entrance. The door is of six fielded panels, with a blocked rectangular fanlight above. A small cornice over the windows and a larger cornice over the whole front are both ornamented with a design of small Gothic arches. The building is of group value, part of a wider terrace of properties.
