Description
The chest tomb of Jane Whitaker, dated 1815, is located about 50 metres south-west of the west tower of the Church of Saint Andrew. It is made of fine-grained sandstone and features a broad plinth that was formerly surrounded by railings. The chest has projecting panels on each side, and above it sits a small sarcophagus with a scalloped lid, sunk panels on the sides, fluted corners, and claw feet. The east end of the chest bears an inscription stating, "In this vault are deposited the remains of Jane, daughter of Charles and Rachel Whitaker of Kingston upon Hull, who died December the 17th, 1815, aged 9 months." A later inscription on the south side notes the death of Rachel Whitaker at seven months in 1824.
