Description
The Old Hall is a large house with an 18th-century core, an early 19th-century garden front, and later 19th-century additions to the sides and rear. The walls are stuccoed red brick with pantile and Welsh slate roofs. The front of the house, which is 1:3:1:3:1 bays wide, extends beyond the original 18th-century core. A central Doric columned porch contains a part-glazed double door with a fanlight and archivolt. Flanking the porch are two-storey bay windows with continuous sills, and other windows are similarly styled, although those on the first floor lack cornices. A string course and cornice run beneath a plain parapet, with balustraded panels above the bay windows and centre. Brick stacks are present at the ends and to the right of centre. A mid-19th-century, three-bay dining room, projecting forward on the right, is similarly styled, with triglyphs to the frieze. The rear of the house, facing the road, has 3:6:3 windows on the ground floor, the central section slightly recessed, with plain sashes and corniced architraves. The first-floor windows have shaped aprons. A lower, three-bay side wing is set on the left. The roofs are hipped. The interior was not inspected, but a former description notes a c.1890 redecoration of the staircase and a panelled billiard room. The garden front rooms are described as retaining 18th-century character, with original chimneypieces.
