Description

The lychgate and wall to the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin were built in 1868 by the architect G E Street for Sir Tatton Sykes. The structure features an ashlar wall and a timber-framed lychgate with plain clay roofing tiles. The lychgate has a triple-chamfered plinth, post and principal rafter framework, arch braces, scissor braces, and six trefoil-headed openings with transoms on both sides. The low churchyard wall is topped with shaped coping stones. This listing is included for its group value context.
