Description

'The Fishing Post' and The Old Schoolhouse is a school and master's house that has been converted into a single residence. It was built in 1877 by G E Street for Sir Tatton Sykes. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and has a roof covered in plain tiles. It features an irregular main range with four projecting gabled wings of different sizes and heights.

The school section, located to the left and at the rear, is designed in the Gothic revival style, while the master's house is in the Jacobean domestic style. The entrance includes a boarded door framed in timber with a segmental head to the left, and another similar door in a pointed opening with a continuous segmental head to the left. To the right, there is a similar door in a pointed opening with a continuous chamfer.

The façade includes a 3-light window with plate tracery under a segmental head to the left, and a 4-light mullioned window with a king mullion to the right. In the center, there are three square-headed windows with mullions and two single-light square-headed windows. The first floor features 2-light casement windows with lead cames throughout. The gables are clad in shaped tiles, and there are axial stacks with stripwork and bands. The building is topped with a fleche that has a cross finial on the school roof. There are outbuildings to the right, but they are not of special interest.
