Description
Sewerby House is a Grade I listed building located on Church Lane in Sewerby. The main block was built around 1714 and incorporates some older elements. It is three storeys high, constructed of brick, with a slightly projecting pedimented center. There are string courses between the storeys and seven windows featuring keystones and moulded stone architraves. In 1808, two-storey bow fronted wings and a semi-circular Doric portico were added, and the entire building was painted to resemble stone. Between 1841 and 1856, these wings were raised to three storeys. The interiors are very fine, including an early 18th-century staircase. Sewerby House is part of a group that includes a terrace balustrade, an attached garden wall, an archway to Sewerby House, a courtyard archway, a conservatory, a stable block, an old laundry, a Gate House, and the Lodge.
