Description
Nos 6 to 14 on Butcher Row in Beverley are late 17th century buildings that were refronted around 1820. They are two storeys tall with attics, rendered exteriors, and a moulded cornice. The roofs are covered with slate and tile and feature two dormers. The buildings have six windows with moulded surrounds and deep moulded reveals, and they do not have glazing bars. No 6 has a modern shop front, while Nos 8 and 10 have modern shop windows. Nos 12 and 14 have doorways with attached columns, an entablature, and a cornice. No 12 contains a fine 17th century staircase that runs through three storeys, featuring a closed string with a moulded pulvinated frieze, plain newels with some moulded drop finials, twisted balusters, and simply moulded handrails. Other features in the buildings are mainly from the early 19th century, such as the moulded architraves on the doors.
