Description

The Manor House is a house dating from the early 18th century, which was refronted and remodelled in the early 19th century. It is constructed from rendered chalk rubble and brick, featuring stone dressings, a plinth, and rusticated quoins, with brick stacks. The house has a central direct-entry plan, a rear wing, and an outshut. It stands two storeys high with five bays arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern.

The entrance features a six-panelled bolection-moulded door with a rectangular fanlight that has margin lights, all set within panelled reveals and soffit. The doorcase is adorned with reeded pilasters, a panelled frieze, and a shallow moulded cornice. The windows are primarily 16-pane sashes, except for the 12-pane sash located above the door, all with stone sills and channelled wedge lintels. The roof is hipped.

Inside, the house contains two corner fireplaces and an early 19th-century open string staircase with scrolled tread-ends, square section balusters, and a moulded handrail. The room to the right of the entrance hall features a fine re-used fireplace dating from around 1750, which includes an eared architrave, a frieze carved with shell and acanthus motifs in high relief, and a moulded cornice. The rear wall is made of massive chalk rubble, which may indicate that it is part of an older building on the same site.
