Description
The building is a cowhouse, originally a barn, located immediately to the southeast of the stable block at Skirpenbeck House. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of red brick in English bond with a pantiled roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with a one-storey, one-bay addition at the north end that links it to the adjacent stable block.
On the west side, there is a central boarded door with a flat arch above it, flanked by two first-floor casement windows, each set under flat arches. The one-storey link to the stable block has a round-arched window to the left of an altered doorway. The building features clogged eaves, shaped ashlar kneelers, and ashlar gable copings. The right side of the barn has paired slit vents, while both gables are adorned with simple lozenge vents and decorative iron tie plates. The attached structures that form a covered yard are not of special interest. This cowhouse is included in the listing for its group value with the adjacent stable block.
