Description
This is a house accompanied by gates and railings, likely dating to around 1780 and originally commissioned for Michael Metcalfe. Later alterations were made. The house is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has five bays. The central doorway features six panels above a fanlight with radial Gothic glazing, all situated within an Ionic porch. To the right of the door is a 19th-century sash window within the original opening, with a channelled wedge lintel, and to the left is a 19th-century square bay window. The first floor contains five sash windows with glazing bars, also under channelled wedge lintels. Chimneys are placed at the ends of the building, topped by a hipped roof with a 20th-century dormer window. The gate piers are square and rusticated, with cornices but without finials. A low limestone wall supports 18th-century railings with urn finials on the standards, and also includes 19th-century cast-iron gates with ramped tops.
