Description

This building, located at 5-7 The Causeway in Port Sunlight, is a group of eight houses constructed in 1901 by architects William and Segar Owen. The houses are built of brick with stone dressings, featuring a roughcast first floor and a tiled roof. They are two storeys high and consist of five bays, with two canted gabled corner bays and three bays facing The Causeway. The second and end bays project under asymmetrical gables that form porches.

The central bay has a canted flat-topped bay window flanked by five-light windows and a buttress. The other bays feature flat-mullioned windows, with the first bay having a two-light window and the others having four-light windows. There are central flat-topped half-dormers with three-light casements, while the inner returns have three-light half-canted flat-topped dormers. The first bay includes a timbered half-dormer with a two-light window, and all windows are fitted with leaded glazing.

The entrances are adorned with small-paned lights and a round feature. The returns to the second and end bays have lateral stacks and projections with windows beneath swept lead roofs, along with three cross-axial stacks. The corner bays feature first-floor jetties over seven-light canted bays, with five-light first-floor windows that have cornices. The facade facing The Causeway is similar to the main facade, and the rear also shares similar architectural features.
