Description

1 and 3 The Folds are two houses built around 1892 by Grayson and Ould. They feature a timber frame set on a stone base, topped with a hipped roof made of stone slate and tile. The first two bays are single-storey, while the third bay is two-storeys and projects forward under a jettied gable. The first and second bays display simple framing with posts and braces, while the third bay has quatrefoils on the first floor. The windows are leaded casements, mostly consisting of four lights; the third bay includes a five-light canted oriel window and a single light to the right, with a projecting window above. The entrance, located between the first and second bays, is sheltered by a cat-slide canopy, and the door features vertical strips. There are stone cross-axial and return lateral stacks with octagonal shafts. The right return mirrors the third bay, with a jettied gabled first-floor bay above the entrance. A brick stack at the rear has twisted shafts.
