Description
Nos. 4 and 5 on Raby Road are two houses built in the 1890s by Grayson and Ould. They feature a timber frame on a stone base and have stone slate roofs. The houses are one storey high and have an L-shaped plan with two rows of three bays. The framing is simple, with posts and braces visible from the street, and the left side has close studding. Each house has a four-light bowed oriel window with leaded glazing.
There is a central gabled porch that includes side panels with turned balusters, a bench on the left side, and a door with vertical strips. The houses have cross-axial and projecting gable-end stacks with octagonal shafts, and the right return has a hipped projection. The second bay of the left return projects under a coved jettied gable. The windows are four-light, and the entrance features a door with vertical strips. There are also cross-axial and valley stacks as mentioned, along with a rear jettied gable.
