Description

A terrace of six houses at 40-50 Primrose Hill, Bebington, built in 1899 by Edmund Kirby as part of the Port Sunlight model village development. The houses are constructed of brick with a tile roof. The terrace is two storeys high and six bays wide, with the end and central bays projecting forward under gabled roofs that form a canopy over the ground floor; the ends are recessed. The windows have sash glazing, with leaded upper sashes. The ground floor windows are four-light units, while the second and fifth bays feature five-light windows. First-floor windows are segmental-headed four-light units, some featuring plastered diapering on the gables. Dormers are flat-topped with three lights, situated over the second and fifth bays. The entrances have plank doors with leaded lights; those in the centre have a hipped porch that extends from the canopy, and those at the ends have a lean-to canopy. The building has five cross-axial stacks and gable-end stacks. The side returns feature rectangular bays under hipped roofs. The rear elevation is similar in design, with gables.
