Description

This is a group of eight houses, numbered 6 to 13, on Church Drive in Port Sunlight. They were built in 1905 by Grayson and Ould. Nos. 8 to 13 were destroyed in the war and subsequently rebuilt in 1947. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings, with roughcast on the first floor, tile-hung gables, and a tile roof. They are two storeys high, with eight bays. The central two bays project and are located under paired, asymmetrical gables. The end bays also break forward under gables. A stone weathered base and string course are present. The ground floor windows are four-light, single-chamfered-mullioned with leaded glazing. The first floor has five-light leaded casements; those to the gabled bays have tile canopies sweeping out from the tile hanging, while others are located in gabled half-dormers with plaster gables and tile canopies. The entrances are paired, with Tudor arched heads, and consist of half-glazed doors with small-paned lights. There are three front-facing chimney stacks running across the houses, with a return lateral stack to the left side that has a red brick section on a stone base; diagonal flues are visible at both the front and back. The rear elevation is similar in appearance.
