Description

This building consists of nine houses, now converted into 18 flats, located at 1 to 9 Causeway Close and includes Nos. 13 to 17 The Causeway. It was constructed in 1913 by J. Lomax Simpson. The structure is made of brick with stone dressings and roughcast, topped with a hipped tile roof. It has two storeys and features six bays, with an additional seven bays on The Causeway side. The first bay is recessed, while the second and fifth bays project forward, all under gables. The third and fourth bays have a first floor that juts out on braced posts, and the end bay is also recessed. The building has random stone quoins on the gabled bays, with roughcast on the first floor of the third and fourth bays and brick-coped gables.

The windows are small-paned casements; those in the gable bays are segmental-headed, and the first two bays feature diamond glazing. The ground floor windows consist of a window with a transom in the second bay and five-light windows in the third and fourth bays. The entrances have small-paned lights, with the end bay entrance situated in a lean-to porch. There are three cross-axial stacks. The facade facing The Causeway is similar, with the third and fourth bays again having a jettied first floor. Two bays on either side break forward and are gabled, featuring central gable-end stacks with canted bases, while the end bay is recessed under a gable. The rear of the building has a 20th-century ground floor with entrances leading to Causeway Close.
