Description
Nos. 70 and 72 Whetstone Lane, along with Nos. 1 and 3 Park Grove, form a group of four houses built around 1850. They are constructed of brick and feature a concrete tiled roof with deeply overhanging eaves. The buildings are two storeys high, with a narrow six-window range facing Park Grove and another six-window range facing Whetstone Lane.
The Park Grove elevation includes two projecting porches with four-panelled doors and two-light windows, although one window is now blocked. The Whetstone Lane elevation is highlighted by a tall central gable that has a wide architrave surrounding a tripartite casement window with margin lights. There are also two-light mullioned and transomed windows with flat-arched heads, featuring cast-iron balconies above, as well as two segment-headed windows in the attic. Each flanking block consists of two bays with tall casement windows, and there is a doorway in the left-hand block. The houses have end wall stacks.
