Description
Cannon Mount is a pair of houses, now divided into flats, built in 1863, likely by Walter Scott. The building is constructed of yellow brick with stone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. It is two stories high with attics and is symmetrically planned, showcasing gothic detailing.
The street-facing elevation consists of three bays with outer gables, the right gable being slightly advanced. Each side entrance has an arched open-work timber porch that supports a squared bay window with a hipped roof above. The left gable features a squared bay window with a tripartite stilted arched window above, and a raking parapet that forms the plinth for a narrower first-floor bay, which has a fretted parapet. The right gable has a canted bay with paired stilted arched windows on each floor and a balcony above the upper windows. The central bay displays stepped tripartite stilted arched windows, with a cast-iron balcony supported by stone brackets on the first floor. The front range has stone-coped gables and fretted bargeboards in the parallel rear range. An end wall stack bears the date.
