Description
Canonhill is a terrace of houses, now subdivided into flats, built around 1860. The building is faced with ashlar and has a renewed tiled roof, showcasing an Italianate style. It stands three storeys high and has a loosely symmetrical overall appearance, featuring projecting pedimented outer bays, while the central range facing the street is asymmetrical with seven bays and irregular fenestration. The advanced outer bays have angle quoins and canted bay windows with pierced parapets on the ground floor, above which are 8-pane sash windows and round-arched windows in the pediment. The central range consists of five units, with doorways flanked by alternately tripartite and paired sash windows, all of which have been renewed in their original openings. The doorways and upper windows are adorned with round-arched architraves. The rear elevation facing the park presents a symmetrical composition with outer pedimented gabled bays and squared bay windows alternating with renewed sash windows across the central section. The building features large ridge stacks with bracketed caps.
