Description
Oaklea is a house built around 1840, featuring an ashlar façade and a Welsh slate roof. It is designed in a simple Neo-classical style and stands two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay layout. The central bay has a pedimented gable and a projecting porch. The porch contains a doorway on its side elevation, which has a four-panelled door and an entablature supported by brackets. Above the porch, there are nine and twelve-pane sash windows, with similar windows flanking it on both floors. The building is accented by full-height angle pilasters. The elevation facing the Esplanade mirrors this design, showcasing twelve-pane sash windows in the central bay and casement windows in the outer bays. The house features lateral and end wall stacks. Additionally, a single-storey service wing was added to the left side in the early 20th century, which has a Westmorland slate roof and a Venetian window that cuts into the eaves cornice.
