Description
A pair of houses dating to circa 1836, situated within the Rock Park development designed by J.Bennison. The houses are constructed of rendered material with a Welsh slate roof. They are built in a picturesque Gothic style, exhibiting two storeys and three wide gables separated by narrower gables. Each house follows a double-pile, three-unit plan, with the division between the houses located centrally within the central gable. A central doorway is positioned within each narrow gable, featuring Gothick panelled doors with overlights, traceried side-lights, and a traceried window above. The flanking gables incorporate two-light mullioned and transomed windows with margin lights, while the centre features blind windows. A moulded sill band runs along the first-floor windows, complemented by slight hood moulds throughout. The advanced gable to the right retains ornamental bargeboards, while the recessed gable to number 13 has a late 20th-century full-height conservatory acting as a stair hall, set at an angle to the main range. Axial and end wall stacks are present, featuring polygonal shafts and heavy caps. The elevation facing the Esplanade displays a similar configuration of gables. A two-storied bay window with a trefoiled parapet is located in the outer bays, above which are tripartite Gothic arched windows. A fretted wooden canopy, partially missing, once covered the central gable.
