Description
The Old Brewhouse, located to the northeast of Poulton Hall, is a former brewhouse dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building stands two storeys high and consists of three bays. It features a weathered stone base, a band above the ground floor, quoins, and coped gables with kneelers. The windows and entrances are topped with gauge-brick flat arches that have stone keys. The first and second bays contain entrances, while the first and third bays on the first floor have louvred windows. The left side has a stone stair leading to a first-floor entrance, which is adorned with a cat-head above it. The first-floor window has a flat arch and a drip mould, with a blocked two-light casement above. A square clock turret with louvred sides is present, although it was noted to be under repair in 1985. The right side features a gable-end stack, and the rear has a later wing that is of no special interest. Inside, there is a large fireplace.
