Description
The former dower house to Poulton Hall, built in 1843, is located on the south side of Chorley Way in Bebington. Initially used as a church (Holy Trinity) at the time of listing, it became a church hall after a new church was constructed in 1987. The building features pebble-dash walls with painted ashlar dressings and a slate roof. It is two stories high with five bays; the fifth bay projects forward under a crow-stepped gable and has a prominent stack adorned with a lozenge and coat of arms.
The windows are detailed with architraves, with ground floor windows featuring label moulds and ovolo mullions for the two-light windows in the first two bays, while the fourth bay has a single light. The first floor includes two-light single-chamfered mullioned windows with crow-stepped gables in the first three bays, and the fourth bay has a single triangular-headed light. All windows are sashed. A 20th-century gabled porch with a round-headed entrance is present, along with cross-axial and rear stacks.
The right return has three bays similar to the main facade, with ground floor windows that include transoms and first floor windows arranged in a 2:4:2-light configuration, featuring gablets with finials. All windows on this side have casements. The left return includes a 20th-century porch and a merlon. The rear of the building is more utilitarian, with the first bay recessed under a gable, featuring one crow-stepped gablet and an end wing with a single-pitched roof. Although it was built as a dower house for Poulton Hall, it has not been used for that purpose.
