Description

The market cross, located at the junction of Allport Lane, dates from 1278 or later, with its upper part added in 1874 by Sir Gilbert Scott. It is constructed from stone and features seven square steps leading up to an octagonal base. The shaft is chamfered and capped, supporting a canopy that rests on squat quatrefoil piers adorned with foliate caps, angel corbels, and crocketed gables. At the top, there is a cross on an octagonal plinth. A plaque on the east side notes the restoration of the structure.
