Description
This is a terrace of six houses located at 158-168 New Chester Road, built in 1899 by H. Beswick. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings, featuring a terracotta frieze and pebbledash on the first floor, topped with a tiled roof. The gables are plastered and adorned with wreaths.
The ground floor has a drip mould and frieze, with a terracotta frieze on the end bays. Above, the first floor windows are covered by tile canopies and have decorated lintels with leaded glazing. The first floor features two central windows with three-light projecting casements set in gabled half-dormers. The end bays showcase four-light canted oriels with shaped sill boards.
The entrances are elliptical-headed, featuring enriched spandrels and plank doors with strap hinges. There are three cross-axial stacks, and the returns include porches with hipped roofs. The rear of the houses is similar in style and includes privies.
