Description
A terrace of six houses, now largely offices, was constructed around 1825-30, possibly by James Gillespie Graham. The houses are ashlar-faced brick with a Welsh slate roof and extend over three storeys, forming a 15-window range. Number 1, which has an advanced two-bay frontage, is an exception with a 4-window, double-room plan; the remaining houses have a single room, double-depth plan. The ground floor features channelled ashlar, six-panelled doors with overlights, and 12-pane sash windows with emphasised voussoirs in the channelled ashlar. Above, 12-pane sashes are set within a continuous sill band and plain stone lintels, with blind window spaces above the doorways. A moulded cornice and parapet top the facade, punctuated by axial brick stacks. Cast-iron spearhead railings define the basement area and flank the steps leading to the front doors.
