Description
A pair of houses dating from around 1835, constructed of stucco with a slate roof, located on Montpellier Crescent in New Brighton, Wallasey. The houses are three storeys high and four bays wide, with the central two bays projecting forward under an open pediment supported by stone columns on the ground floor. Sill bands and bracketed eaves run along the roofline, and quoins define the corners. Windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor windows are detailed with architraves, pulvinated friezes, and cornices. The central projection features a round-headed window and a front entrance. First floor windows have consoled pediments; those in the central bays are segmental, while the outer bays have pediments flanked by bull’s eyes with archivolts and keystones. The second-floor central windows also have consoled pediments. A timber porch is located at the entrance to the fourth bay. Terraces with pierced balustrades are present in the outer bays. A substantial central chimney stack is topped with twenty ornamental pots. The side elevations have lateral stacks and small extensions. The rear elevation includes a rusticated basement with a loggia and balustrade, along with three-storey rectangular bay windows in the outer bays.
