Description
The conservatory attached to the left side of Glencaple is an early 20th-century structure designed by Rowse. It features painted wood and has a shallow pyramidal glazed roof with a central lantern, showcasing a classical style. The conservatory has a square plan and includes a short side-link to the house. It is symmetrical with three bays, each supported by Tuscan columns arranged distyle-in-antis, and has a shallow frieze with guttae and a mutule cornice.
Each bay has a panelled plinth; the center bay contains a doorway with a slender pilastered architrave and sidelights, while the outer bays feature multi-pane glazing. All windows are fitted with metal glazing bars and tilting openings in the bottom tier, and each bay has a two-tiered multi-pane overlight with criss-cross glazing bars. The roof is topped with a broad but shallow lantern that has one tier of small square lights, all with radiating metal glazing bars and tilting openings, and culminates in a shallow pyramidal glazed roof with an apex finial. Inside, there is a tiled floor and a multipane glazed screen wall connecting to the house.
