Description
A pair of small houses dating from the mid-19th century, located in Crosby. The houses are constructed with painted roughcast render and painted sandstone dressings, with a slate roof and stone gable coping to number 32. They have a double-depth plan; number 32 has a single-fronted appearance, while number 34 is double-fronted and symmetrical.
The exterior features two storeys and a three-window front for number 32, and a three-plus-two window front for number 34, with raised quoining and a first-floor sillband. Both houses have round-headed doorways, with pilaster jambs, moulded imposts, a moulded head featuring an enriched keystone, and a set-in wooden pilaster doorcase. They both have four-panel doors and fanlights with radiating glazing bars. Number 32 has a large, hornless 16-pane sash window at ground floor and two similar 12-pane sashes above, all with raised quoined surrounds and moulded brackets to the sills. The ground-floor window in number 32 is fitted with louvred external shutters. Number 34 has C20 bay windows at ground floor and 12-pane sashes at first floor, similar to those in number 32. Chimneys are located on the front and rear slopes at the junction between the two properties, and a side-wall chimney is present on number 34. The rear and interior were not inspected. The buildings form a group with numbers 28 and 30 to the right, and with numbers 36 and 38 to the left.
