Description
The Church of the Holy Family, which serves as a parish church, was built in 1858 by J.J. Scoles, with interior decoration likely done by Crace. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The west facade features two storeys, with a stone base, a first-floor sill band, and a top pediment adorned with a cross. There are three round-headed windows arranged in a one-two-one pattern, with the central pair projecting forward. Above, there is a window with two round-headed lights and a roundel beneath a round arch, decorated with foliage in the tympanum. Flanking niches are located under cornices, and there is an enclosed porch with an octagonal turret to the left. The rest of the exterior is plain, featuring round-headed windows.
Inside, the five-bay nave has a coffered ceiling and a west gallery supported by Doric columns, complete with a balustrade. The high windows are topped with a rich cornice and sill course. The round apse features a tunnel vault, and the interior painting is in an arabesque style similar to that found in Ince Blundell Hall.
