Description
This shelter, likely built around 1913, is the second in a series of five that run east-west around the south end of Marine Lake in Southport. It was manufactured by David King & Son in Glasgow and supplied by William Robson, an ironmonger in Southport.
The structure is made of cast iron and glass, featuring an H-plan design under a rectangular roof. It is a single-storey building supported by cast-iron columns with crocket capitals and elaborate foliated brackets that hold up the roof. The dado consists of solid panels adorned with Art Nouveau motifs, and there are glazed screens with iron glazing bars in the overlights. The roof is swept, and there are wooden slatted benches in the side and end bays. Lettered plates displaying the maker's and supplier's names are attached to the side panels.
These shelters on the Promenade form a cohesive group, contributing to the area's character.
