Description
This is a shelter, likely built around 1913, located as the fifth in a series of five shelters that run east-west around the south end of Marine Lake in Southport. It was manufactured by David King & Son in Glasgow and supplied by William Robson, an ironmonger in Southport.
The structure is H-shaped and features a rectangular roof. It is a single-storey building made of cast iron and glass, with a lead-clad roof. The design includes cast-iron columns topped with crocket capitals and ornate foliated brackets supporting the roof. The lower part of the walls has solid panels adorned with Art Nouveau motifs, while the upper sections consist of glazed screens with iron glazing bars that radiate in the overlights. The roof is swept, and there are wooden slatted benches in the side and end bays. Additionally, lettered plates displaying the names of the maker and supplier are attached to the side panels.
These shelters on the Promenade are recognized as a group due to their collective significance.
