Description
This shelter, likely built around 1913, is the first in a series of five that run east-west around the south end of Marine Lake in Southport. It was manufactured by David King & Son in Glasgow and supplied by William Robson, an ironmonger in Southport. The structure is made of cast iron and glass, featuring a lead-clad roof.
The shelter has an H-plan design under a rectangular roof and is a single storey. It includes cast-iron columns with crocket capitals and elaborate foliated brackets supporting the roof. The dado consists of solid panels adorned with Art Nouveau motifs, while the glazed screens have iron glazing bars radiating in the overlights. The roof is swept, and there are wooden slatted benches in the side and end bays. Lettered plates displaying the maker's and supplier's names are attached to the side panels.
These shelters on the Promenade are recognized as a group for their collective significance.
