Description
This is a shelter, likely built around 1913, and is the third in a series of five that run east-west around the south end of Marine Lake in Southport. It was manufactured by David King & Son in Glasgow and supplied by William Robson, an ironmonger in Southport. The structure is made of cast iron and glass, and while the roof was originally clad in lead, it has since been felted.
The shelter has an H-plan layout under a rectangular roof and is a single storey. It features cast-iron columns with crocket capitals and elaborate brackets supporting the roof. The dado consists of solid panels adorned with Art Nouveau designs, and there are glazed screens with iron glazing bars in the overlights. The roof is swept, and there are wooden slatted benches in the side and end bays. Additionally, lettered plates displaying the maker's and supplier's names are attached to the side panels. The shelters along the promenade are collectively significant as a group.
