Description
The building is a barn and former stable associated with Lydiate House, dating from 1611, as indicated by an inscribed lintel reading "TLM/1611". It is constructed of narrow-coursed stone with some brick repairs and features a slate roof. The barn consists of three bays, characterized by large quoins and ventilation slots, with a prominent entrance on the east side. Inside, the barn has king post trusses supported by triangular buttresses.
To the north is the stable, which has upper walls made of brick from various periods. It includes three entrances with large lintels, one of which is dated, while two are now blocked. There are also two blocked segmental-headed windows, a blocked pitching hole, and a loading door. The gable end features a 20th-century entrance that has replaced an earlier one with a lintel inscribed "ELIZABETH FAZAKERLY/1702", which is now part of the house. The interior of the stable has trusses similar to those found in the barn.
