Description

Old Gore Farmhouse is a house that likely dates from the mid-17th century. It has a three-cell lobby-entry plan and is constructed of brick in English garden wall bond on a stone plinth, topped with a slate roof. The building stands two storeys tall, with a continuous roof that sweeps down over a two-storey porch and a projecting wing on the left side.

The windows feature plastered surrounds and are mostly recessed and chamfered with mullions. The wing includes a six-light window on the ground floor and a five-light window on the first floor. Each side of the porch has a bay with five-light windows, and the first-floor windows have timber casements in chamfered surrounds. The first-floor window in the porch is now blocked and originally had two lights. The doorway, which is offset to the right, has a round arch with a rendered surround. To the left of the doorway is a stone plaque displaying shields of arms and the date '1596', which is unusually early for a lobby-entry house of this type. The house features chimneys on the left side and in line with the porch.

Inside, the middle room on the ground floor has a fireplace with a firehood bressumer. The front window contains three painted glass quarries, including the Molyneux shield of arms. The dog-leg stair, likely from the 18th century, has a closed string, turned balusters, a pine handrail, and square pine newels.
