Description
This is a terrace of 12 houses located on Sandown Lane, built between 1836 and 1846. The houses are constructed of stucco and feature a slate roof. They are two storeys high with a basement, and each house has two bays. The design is symmetrical, with the two end houses projecting slightly and the central two houses breaking forward under a pediment. There is a lintel band at the basement, a first-floor lintel band, and a top cornice, with parapets at the ends. The recessed bays have channelled rustication on the ground floor. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, and those in the projecting bays have shouldered architraves. The entrances feature flat architraves and cornices, overlights, and four-panel doors, with all except those for Nos. 16 and 30 being paired. The pediment has a tympanum painted with arabesques, and there is a painted plaque underneath that reads: "SANDOWN TERRACE/RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION/1984".
