Description
The Young Men's Christian Association Building, constructed in 1875 by H.H. Vale, serves as club premises. It features a brick structure with stone dressings and a slate roof, displaying an asymmetrical elevation. The building is two storeys high with an attic and comprises ten bays. The two bays at each end are recessed, while the projecting bays flank a four-bay central section. The first two bays include a 19th-century shop front. The projecting bays feature entrances with pointed arches supported by granite shafts and topped with gables. The central bays are adorned with two-light mullioned windows, while the end bays have pointed entrances and windows, both of which are partially covered by a 20th-century canopy. An arcaded frieze above the ground floor bears the inscription "THE LIVERPOOL YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION." The first-floor windows are two-light with pointed heads and plate tracery, and the second-floor end bays also have pointed windows with plate tracery and gables. The left entrance bay includes a tower with three lancet windows, decorative diaper work, and a tourelle to the left, along with a pavilion roof featuring a dormer and iron cresting. The central bays have a steep roof and dormer, while the right entrance bay is topped with a gable that has a round window. The building is capped with three brick stacks that have stone caps.
