Description
Saint Bride's Church is a church built in 1830 by Samuel Rowland. It is constructed of stone and stucco with a slate hipped roof, designed in the style of a classical temple. The church features three rows of six bays and a rectangular chancel apse. A prominent hexastyle Ionic portico with unfluted columns is located at the front. The central window has a battered architrave, frieze, and cornice, flanked by entrances that have battered eared architraves and paired three-panel doors with panels above. The returns of the building include sill bands, a top entablature, and a parapet. The end bays are highlighted by flat pilasters with friezes and cornices, and small paned fixed casements. The apse includes a sill band, angle pilasters, an entablature, and a parapet, along with a tripartite window featuring angle colonnetes, an entablature, and a pediment. There are flanking porches with battered eared architraves leading to the return entrances.
Inside, the church has a U-shaped gallery supported by iron columns, featuring an Ionic entablature and a panelled balcony. The chancel apse also has angle pilasters and an entablature. The east window is designed as a distyle-in-antis Ionic colonnade and contains stained glass from the early 20th century. The royal arms on the west wall are dated 1827. There are 20th-century glazed partitions for offices located under the gallery.
