Description
The Sikh Community Centre, originally a Methodist Chapel, was built in 1904 and features an inscription below its pediment that reads "WESLEYAN 1904 CHURCH." The building is constructed of red brick with yellow terracotta dressings and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with the central bays being slightly taller and topped with a pediment.
Architectural details include a frieze and cornice above the ground floor, with a top frieze and cornice adorned with urns at each end and flat pilasters. The ground floor has segmental-headed windows that feature panelled aprons and architraves. The first floor showcases round-headed windows with impost bands, archivolts, and keys, with the central bays having larger windows that include an arcaded balcony and stained glass in the Art Nouveau style.
The central bays also have round-headed entrances with archivolts, richly decorated pilasters, and spandrels, leading to paired six-panel doors. The pediment is embellished with a richly moulded tympanum that includes foliage and a cartouche, topped with a finial.
