Description
These office buildings, numbered 6 to 20 Stanley Street, were constructed around 1880. They are built of granite and stand four storeys high, with a basement. The building has nine bays. The ground floor features an incised sill band and five entrances. The windows are tripartite (divided into three lights) with colonnettes, and paired windows are located next to the entrances. Windows on the first and second floors are tripartite, with a continuous entablature above. The third floor has four-light windows, and a flat band with corbels is positioned above. Gables are present on the second and eighth bays; the gable in the centre bay is missing. These gables incorporate stepped three-light windows and slits positioned above. The architectural style is notably advanced and demonstrates similarities to the work of Lethaby.
