Description
This is a terrace of houses built in the 1860s, accompanied by a private road running parallel to the main road. The buildings are constructed of brick and stucco, with a slate roof. The terrace consists of 3 bays per house, with returns of 2 bays each at numbers 44 and 74. The ends of the terrace feature 5 bays each, and a central section projects forward, highlighted by rusticated quoins.
The ground floor is stuccoed, with an entablature, a cornice above the first floor, a top cornice, and a ramped blocking course. Windows have architraves; ground floor windows have aprons, while first floor windows feature friezes and consoled cornices with antefixae. Some windows are sashes, some are casements, and some lack glazing bars. The projecting bays incorporate tripartite sashes within segmental-headed openings on the ground floor and round-headed windows on the first floor. Round-headed entrances are topped with Doric porches and Ionic entablatures. Other windows are round-headed on the ground floor, and straight-headed above. Paired round-headed entrances are flanked by pilasters and topped with entablatures. Decorative iron railings define the areas and steps. Numbers 44 and 74 have projecting 2-bay returns, including Doric porches and 3-storey bow windows. Number 72 has a single, rectangular oriel window on the second floor.
