Description
The Jewish Cemetery Screen with front railings, built in 1836, serves as the entrance to the cemetery. It features a combination of stucco and stone in a Greek Revival style. The screen wall exhibits channelled rustication, an entablature, and a blocking course. At the center, there is a round-headed gateway adorned with an archivolt and an applied Doric aedicule. The architrave of the aedicule bears the inscription "HERE THE WEARY ARE AT REST," followed by Hebrew characters. The ends of the screen have flat pilasters that support a break forward in the entablature, which includes a frieze decorated with five wreaths. Panels are located between the pilasters. In front of the screen, there are decorative iron railings with spear heads, along with paired gates and panelled gate piers at each end.
