Description

The Old Ship is a late 18th-century restaurant. It is built of brick with stone dressings, and has been painted, with a slate roof. The building follows a double-pile plan and features end chimneys. The symmetrical design incorporates chamfered quoins and a moulded cornice. It is two storeys high with three bays. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, plain reveals, stone sills, and lintels featuring false voussoirs and keystones. The entrance door consists of six raised panels, surmounted by a fanlight with a semi-circular head and intersecting glazing bars. Flanking the door are attached Tuscan columns supporting an open pediment. Inside, a dogleg staircase features an open string, fluted rectangular newels, stick balusters, and a ramped handrail.
