Description

The Church of St Luke, built in 1876 by Paley and Austin, is a church located on Church Lane in Winmarleigh. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a red tile roof. The building includes a nave with a continuous chancel, a south porch, a south organ chamber, a north chapel, and a north vestry. Both the chapel and organ chamber have pitched roofs. The windows display flowing tracery in various designs, with pointed heads for those in the nave, including a west window with two lights and two bays of windows on the south and north nave walls featuring three and two lights respectively. The south chancel window has two lights with a flat head, while the east window has three lights under a pointed head. The chapel and organ chamber, both with flat-headed windows, consist of two bays. The north chapel may be a late 19th-century addition, although it is in the same style. The porch is made of timber and rests on low stone side walls. A timber bellcote with a boarded spire is situated between the nave and chancel.

Inside, the church is plastered and features extensive late 19th-century stencil decoration. The nave roof is supported by arch-braced rafters, each with a collar and king post, and there are two trusses of similar design between the nave and chancel. The chancel and the area between the trusses have boarded waggon roofs with stencil decoration. The north and south sides feature two-bay arcades with moulded pointed arches that spring from central clustered columns. Additionally, there is a piscina with a trefoiled head.
