Description

This is a limekiln located at Ratcliffe Wharf, near Forton. It was constructed against the bank of the Lancaster Canal, which opened in 1797. The kiln is built from large sandstone blocks and has a roughly rectangular plan, with the top now grassed over. The front (east) wall features a blocked lower opening, covered by a timber lintel.
